Amazon's Galaxy Quest Series is Moving Forward With A New Writer

"Never give up. Never surrender" - That's a famous line from director Dean Parisot's 1999 sci-fi comedy film Galaxy Quest, and it looks like Amazon's series based on that is finally moving forward since it was announced a few years ago.

According to THR, Amazon has hired writer-comedian-actor Paul Scheer (The League) to write the script for the series. He will be replacing Robert Gordon, who wrote the script of the original film.

While there's no word whether any of the original cast members will return, the series is still being described as "a new take on the cult movie that starred Tim Allen, the late Alan Rickman as well as Sigourney Weaver."

The parody film followed a group of washed-up TV actors who starred in a sci-fi series and actually get involved in a real intergalactic adventure to save an alien race. It gives them the chance to do heroic things, and there's a lot of hilarious moments that fans enjoyed.

Back in 2016, actor Sam Rockwell said that Alan Rickman's death was the reason the series fell apart, saying:

"We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn't available — he ha[d] [Last Man Standing] — and everybody's schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That's a hard void to fill."

This will probably be compared to Seth MacFarlane's sci-fi comedy series The Orville. Hopefully, both series will be worth watching.
