Wonder Woman's Villain is a Very Interesting One

The battlefield in Wonder Woman may definitely go beyond man. And it's not only because of her presence in the World War I setting. A new report suggests that Wonder Woman may face a fellow fearsome god, Ares, who will be one of the big puppeteers for her story's conflicts.

According to a translated report from CBR, the god of war may actually be the fruit of anger and animosity between men on Earth, at least from the DC perspective. The translation reads:

"Why did Zeus create the Amazons? Because shaping man in his image made his son Ares, incidentally a god of war, mad with jealousy, he convinces the guys to confront each other. To restore harmony between them, Zeus created the Amazons that Ares reduced to slavery. The Amazons revolt with the help of Zeus, who will die of the hand of his son having had time to find Themyscira, their haven of peace where they will grow Diana."

From the report, there seems to be a lot of history that could easily go a full circle with the right storytelling. A possibly biased god, a jealous son-god, an issue of repression, and the possible hope for those oppressed who may fall in love with someone embodying the root of all this jealousy.

If that's not enough, Chris Pine, who plays the role of Steve Trevor, is the one who may be responsible for taking the notebook with scientific formulas. These formulas are supposedly for a deadly gas that could take down the entire human race--something that the jealous Ares may just want to get his hands on.

It's almost like a tale spun with drama at its core, but if they're able to execute this well, Wonder Woman has my vote for restoring my faith in DC.

Wonder Woman will be out in theaters on June 2. It stars Gal Gadot, Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Elena Anaya, and David Thewlis. Crossing my fingers that the actor they will cast to play the role of Ares lives up to the god of war reputation.
