The Walking Dead Will Get 3 Extended Episodes in Second Half

Back in the first half of the seventh season, The Walking Dead received an extended run of an episode—and instead of making us grip our seats longer, a lot did want to just get it over with. After all, that episode did not really do so much in terms of developing the episode's story.

However, The Walking Dead showrunners are trying the extended episode run again for the second half of the show. And not once, but rather for three episodes. According to Undead Walking, three of the 16 planned episodes will have a longer run. The first three episodes will have extended runs: Episode 7x09 will be the longest at 73 minutes. This is understandable since it will be a build-up episode for the war against Negan.

Greg Nicotero will be in charge of directing this episode, and it will see Rick and the gang confronting the folks over at The Kingdom in a plea to start the war.

The second episode will run just a little longer at 66 minutes, while the episode after that will have a 68-minute run.

There's no word yet on whether other episodes within the 7B half will have an extended run. AMC has yet to release the synopsis for The Walking Dead's second and third episodes for the seventh season's second half.

I understand the extension, but I'm crossing my fingers that The Walking Dead showrunners will really make good use of the episode's pace this time. They've chalked up the slow pace of the first half to building the bigger world that they promised, this latter half should justify why we needed to see that bigger world, and where it will take our heroes to.

The Walking Dead will be back next month on AMC.
