The Suicide Squad's James Gunn Says WB Offered Him 'Whatever He Wanted'

James Gunn was originally set to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but some controversy had led to him getting fired from the film—hence him landing a job doing The Suicide Squad for WB. Apparently Gunn was offered any film he wanted, and it was Squad that he ultimately chose.

Gunn had gone on his IG stories (via The Playlist) to answer some fan questions, and when asked what got him on The Suicide Squad, he said that it was his own choice. He simply said, "I was basically offered whatever I wanted. I most wanted to do ‘Squad'."

With Gunn already making an ensemble comic book film full of misfits, you'd think that he would feel right at home when making The Suicide Squad. Hopefully, he manages to make this film feel significantly more different. We don't want GOTG, but with DC villains this time.

Some set photos have already come out for The Suicide Squad, and if you ask me, it looks way more "comic book" than the last film. If anything, the costumes look like they came from Gunn's R-Rated superhero film, Super starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page:

If you ask me, they should have kept to the aesthetic of the first film, because, despite the poor story, the costumes were fantastic. With this being a sequel/reboot, I kind of understand why Gunn would go for a completely different feel.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it comes out Aug. 6, 2021.
