Star Wars: The Force Awakens Concept Art Has a Different-Looking Jakku

If there was one criticism about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it would have to be its very familiar feel to A New Hope.

But apparently, this wasn't supposed to be the case. Lucasfilm has recently released a new concept art for the planet Jakku in the movie. If the original art was followed, we could've had a very different feel of where Rey came from.

Seen below, the concept art showcased a grayer horizon on a planet primarily composed of steel, scraps, and what even appears to be icebergs on a potentially frozen lake.

There are two moons in the background, a few AT-AT and ship scraps in the foreground, a possible machine factory and a shady tower to top everything off.

"Jakku's origins can be traced to an early Episode VII visualist meeting, where the concept of a ‘junk planet' was discussed."

The concept art was created by Erik Tiemens. There's even a closer look at the scraps to see a figure standing among the steel. It should have been a young hero named Kira, who is supposedly a "loner, hothead, and gear-head." It's highly possible that this was the prototype for Rey, with a close resemblance to Anakin, if only for well, everything.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended up with a look reviving the sandy world of young Luke Skywalker instead, perhaps to hark back to the high time of the original trilogy.

Would you have preferred this set-up for Jakku over the final cut that's more of a desert planet in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
