Star Wars’ Rogue One Rumors: New Jedi, New Villains & More Darth Vader Screen Time

The release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story looms nearer, but neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has revealed more details about the film other than its cast and storyline. Well, new reports are revealing possible plotlines about Rogue One.

The latest word on the grapevine came after a new casting title has appeared on the IMDB page for Rogue One. Guardians of the Galaxy star Emeson Nwolie will be playing the role of a "Religious Warrior." The listing immediately led fans to speculate Nwolie to play a Jedi, since the Jedi Order is perhaps the most popular faction of Religious Warriors in the beloved space opera series.

There's also new rumors about Darth Vader's screen time in the film. Previous speculations claim that the Sith Lord will be appearing in Rogue One as a hologram acting as a "guiding presence" for the film's main villain. However, according to Movie Pilot, fans could expect to see Vader in the flesh in the upcoming film. Actor James Earl Jones will reprise his role as the voice of Vader and the MP report claims that Vader's character's suit from A New Hope is being recreated for Rogue One.

The first installment of the Star Wars Anthology film series, Rogue One will take place right before the events of A New Hope. It follows a new team of Rebels on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. At this time, the galaxy has been purged of the Jedi Order, although some have managed to escape.

If the above speculations of Nwolie and Vader's roles are true, then it would lay out exciting possibilities for the film, one of which include a potential interesting lightsaber duel between Vader and Nwolie's "religious warrior."

Meanwhile, there's another villain we could be seeing in Rogue One other than Vader. Den of Geek reported that Lucasfilm is currently working on a digital performance of the original Star Wars' Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin). Boba Fett's ship, Slave One, was also used during a Star Wars LEGO conference as a representation for Rogue One. This could be suggesting the bounty hunter's return to the big screen too.

Nothing is set in stone since Lucasfilm/Disney hasn't commented to any of the recent reports, but Director Gareth Edwards has previously described Rogue One to be a war movie. There certainly lies the possibility of a huge battle involving a few remaining Jedi Knights, Darth Vader, and new villains.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16.
