Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac Apparently Loved The Passionate Criticism Fans Had For Poe In TLJ

Star Wars: The Last Jedi received a lot of criticism from fans who didn't like the way the film subverted their expectations, and while most focused on how the film turned Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) into a jaded hermit, others zoned in on the arc of the Resistance's ace pilot, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).

A lot of fans didn't like the way Poe was kept in the dark by Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern), with so many believing that the hero should have been given information so that he could work together with the team to create the best escape plan for the Resistance.

While some actors might not enjoy the criticism, Isaac tells Yahoo! Entertainment that he loved the passionate response to his character and his character's arc, including fans' comparison of Poe's behavior to the legal system at an event at this year's San Diego Comic Con.

"I love that," Isaac told the publication during the interview "It's incredible because you have people actually engaging with the ethical question of war and what leadership is. The last thing you want is for people to watch a movie and be like, ‘Great,' and then move on. With [The Last Jedi], the conversation continues and can stir real emotions. You're having a conversation about actual things that matter, you know?"

Of course, seeing fans passionately discussing Poe's arc can be a source of inspiration. There's a whole lot to love seeing the fanbase passionately (and objectively) discussing how the character's arc better. Things only get worrying when fans take their notes too far and start harassing and insulting The Last Jedi's cast and crew based on their race and their gender, the same way toxic fans did with Kelly Marie Tran, forcing her off of Instagram.

Lucasfilm's next movie, Star Wars: Episode IX, is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
