Star Wars Episode IX: It's Important To Director Colin Trevorrow How Kids Will Love It

Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World was one huge success, and it sparked a new interest in the franchise, particularly with kids. Trevorrow is now in line to direct the last Star Wars movie in the sequel trilogy, and he admits that it's important to him how this movie will be viewed by children.

In an interview with Fandango, Trevorrow admits:

"Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia were all characters that we were able to identify with in various ways, and especially with the character of Rey and what she means to young girls right now, and the challenges that she's up against. It is extremely crucial that I understand what actual children are feeling about these stories that we're telling them, and I think it's important that I have kids, and if filmmakers don't have kids, they should go talk to them because they don't see things the same way that we did when we were kids. So, yes, I am very dialed in to that because I think it's a requisite of the job."

A lot of Star Wars fans (myself included) can admit that their fandom for the franchise was something they've had since they were very young. Seeing that Star Wars makes a bulk of its profits from selling merch and toys, you bet that they're going to make sure that this sequel trilogy is also a hit with the kids.

A lot of people who've seen Star Wars when they were older have openly admitted that they don't really see what's so special about the movies, but fans who have gotten hooked early have brought their love for Star Wars well into their adulthood. A lot of people today (including some fans) are still baffled as to why Star Wars is as popular as it is.

For now, the next Star Wars movie in line is The Last Jedi, and it comes out Dec. 15. Star Wars Episode IX will be released May 24, 2019.
