Star Wars Battlefront II: All DLC Will Be Free; Microtransactions Still An Option

One of the biggest complaints that Star Wars Battlefront got when it came out was the lacking content of the game and the expensive DLC expansions that came with it. EA and DICE have been trying to prove to the fans that they are listening, and have announced that there will be seasonal DLC that will be free for anyone who has the game.

During EA's presentation at E3, game design director Niklas Fegraeus said:

"I think the main thing here is to keep the community together. In terms of the brand, to me, when it comes to Star Wars, that's a family feeling. If you're a fan, you're a part of the family. And splitting that up and saying, ‘If you have this content you can play here, but if you have this content you can play here.' And if you don't share, you will be split up. What we wanted to do was have a journey that starts at the launch of the game. So when the game launches, this journey starts with different seasons [of DLC]."

The game will still include microtransactions, however, but it's nothing to put players above anyone else who doesn't buy them. It's said that all achievements in-game can still be unlocked via grinding, so nobody has to worry about missing out.

This is a pretty sweet move for EA, and will surely add a certain level of trust with the fans. Looking at Overwatch last year, the game didn't come with any paid DLC at all, and the community is one of the most massive today. Every DLC came free, and players who don't want to grind that much can still buy lootboxes if ever.

Hopefully Star Wars Battlefront II is everything we're hoping it to be.
