Star Trek: Discovery Production Start Dated, Bryan Fuller Not Involved

Star Trek: Discovery will finally see its sets completed in a month, which signals that the filming for the series will begin soon enough.

Sources told CBR that following the delay for filming to start last month, the delay was necessary to achieve the best result in terms of visuals for the series. But it's good to hear that the sets will finally be done and filming may commence at the Pinewood Toronto Studios.

Sadly, even with the obvious progress of Star Trek: Discovery, creator Bryan Fuller won't be involved with the project. In an interview with Newsweek, Fuller revealed that he was no longer the showrunner due to schedule conflicts as dictated by CBS.

"Ultimately, with my responsibilities [elsewhere], I could not do what CBS needed to have done in time they needed it done for Star Trek. It felt like it was best for me to focus on landing the plane with American Gods and making sure that was delivered in as elegant and sophisticated a fashion as I could possibly do."

Fuller calls this incident bittersweet, but confirms that it could not have been done any other way as there was no satisfactory resolution except for him to step away from the project.

Despite no longer being a showrunner, he is still credited as an executive producer. He had given some material for the series, though will no longer play a part in the production or post-production of the show.

Star Trek: Discovery will debut sometime in spring 2017, with Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane in the cast.
