Spider-Man Spinoff Black Cat & Silver Sable Gets An Official Title And Lands Lady Director

After we got the confirmation of Tom Hardy being officially cast as Venom, we now have another update on Sony's Black Cat and Silver Sable spinoff movie.

Deadline reports that the movie will be titled Silver & Black and it will be directed by Cloak & Dagger pilot director Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Apparently, Prince-Bythewood will be rewriting a script that was originally worked on by Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World), but so far, we have no story details released. My best guess is that it's going to be a buddy-cop type move where the reluctant military officer (Silver Sable) has to team up with the unpredictable criminal (Black Cat).

A lot of people are seemingly mad at Sony for continuing these spinoffs outside their "shared" Spidey-verse with Marvel, but I remember back in April that producer Eric Carroll has clarified that Sony and Marvel will be working together in developing their films.

Here's what he said:

"Going forward we would definitely treat [future Spider-Man movies] all as the same slate. So we would be as strategic about where future Spider-Man movies fall in the MCU of it all as we would if Sony weren't involved, because there's nothing in it for us or Sony to put a movie out at the wrong time or start confusing the continuity."

So from this point, we'll just have to wait and see if Sony keeps their word when it comes to their spinoffs, because they already did the right thing with Spider-Man; they don't need to ruin all the good will with fans by breaking off again.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out July 7.
