Sony’s Spider-Man Animated Film Gets More Details

Sony's upcoming but still untitled animated film for the Spider-Man franchise, this time starring Miles Morales as the web-slinger, already has the actors to voice Spidey and an unnamed villain.

Apart from casting Shameik Moore as Miles, fans can expect Liev Schreiber to bring his voice acting skills to villainous territory as the still unspecified villain. From an interview with Collider, Schreiber shared a few things about the film, starting with the fact that he has already read the script, but has yet to go to the recording studio to lend his voice to the role.

The only thing we know about voice recording is that it hasn't started yet, at least not for Schreiber. But he feels that this is about to change in a month or so.

Storyline-wise, we still don't have any specifics, but if there was one thing that Schreiber could share, it was the tone that Spider-Man the animated film will have.

"I think real hardcore Spidey fans will be able to follow this with great ease. It will feel very familiar, in a good way, in a kind of throwback way."

This is where it becomes tricky, since Miles Morales as Spider-Man was only introduced in 2011. In the timeline of the Spiderverse, that's relatively new. One speculation is that this could mean dating the production to make it significantly different than how the other tales have been animated so far.

Schreiber's reason for taking the project is interesting though. He'll be a villain, but it may be one that he would want his children to see. After all, they are supposed to be the reason why he took on the project in the first place.

Sony's Spider-Man animated film is set for release on Dec. 21, 2018.
