Rick and Morty is Delayed, But It’s Okay and Here’s Why

The sci-fi animated sitcom Rick and Morty has become a roaring hit for being the unapologetic piece that it is. However, many fans have been gritting their teeth in anticipation for the third season.

To tide us over (well, maybe not really), co-creator Dan Harmon has been upfront about the state of the show at the Sundance Film Festival. Indiewire was able to get the statement from Harmond, and he was very painfully clear about what the cause of the delay was. Or rather, who was the cause: the writers themselves.

"I'm so sorry. I don't have a release date for season three. It's not that I know it and I'm not allowed to say it. What I will tell you is it's late because of us, it's late because of me. If Justin [Roiland] were here, he'd agree."

He also explained that the two of them had even gotten to the point of fighting unlike during the production of season 2. Harmon later clarified in a series of tweets that the fights revolve around the jokes that the needed to do, and how it's always affected by their "usual perfectionism."

Still, the good news is that the duo is still very much into the creators are still very much interested and in tune with their work.

"But the truth is not dramatic. It's quite boring. We love our show. it's a weird show that we struggle to not overthink OR underthink."

I've been following Rick and Morty for its past two seasons, and I can say with certainty that I support the longer delay. We've seen Harmon and Roiland deliver a brand of comedy that made Rick and Morty what it is, and rushing that can just as easily defeat the process. I don't like pointing fingers but, DC films, anyone? The fact that The Flash and Batman solo films seem to be taking longer in the drawing board is actually a more welcome news to me than anything else.

So let's sit back and relax, dawg. Rick and Morty will surely deliver when it finally has a release date to ease our wubba lubba dub dub.
