New Magic: The Gathering Rules Update Answers If Squee Can Still Get Out of Ixalan's Binding

Squee, the Immortal isn't that "immortal" after all.

Ever since Squee, the Immortal was released in the Dominaria set, many Magic: The Gathering players have been asking about the ruling on whether or not you can cast Squee if exiled with Ixalan's Binding. Last month, it was clarified that you can cast Squee but today's rules update changes that.

Magic rules manager Elli Shiffrin took it to Twitter to remind us about the rules update, which you can find here.

Here's the rule that changed:

601.3a If an effect prohibits a player from casting a spell with certain qualities, that player may consider any choices to be made during that spell's proposal that may cause those qualities to change. If any such choices could cause that effect to no longer prohibit that player from casting that spell, the player may begin to cast the spell, ignoring the effect.
