Magic: The Gathering is bringing back its annual Core set with Core Set 2019 next month, and ever since the promotional artworks featuring Nicol Bolas and Tezzeret were first revealed, people started speculating about the set's story. Many believed it to be a villain-themed set, but back in February, it was confirmed that it's not just about villains. Previous Core sets didn't really have a lot of stories but it looks like Core Set 2019 will have one, and now, we have the first confirmation thanks to a recent Twitch stream.

As Redditor Shamrock Frost pointed out, Core Set 2019's story will be set on the plane of Tarkir, and it's about the beginning of Bolas and Ugin's conflict.

Wizards of the Coast hasn't revealed much about Core 2019's story yet but it sounds like the set will take us back to the past. We still don't know whether it's a retelling of the Elder Dragons' conflict in Tarkir or an alternate version that involves time travel. Last month, it was confirmed that there will be three Magic: The Gathering sets set in the plane of Ravnica after Core 2019 and the Core set's story might connect to that. It's expected that Tezzeret will also be part of Core 2019's story but no details about his role have been revealed yet. We'll soon find out as the set will be out by next month. I'm just glad that there's an actual story for this year's Core set.

Core Set 2019 is set to be released on July 13, 2018. Dominaria is now available.
