Mark Hamill Says Leia Makes It To Star Wars: Episode 9

It looks like Lucasfilm won't be killing off Carrie Fisher's Leia Organa after all.

The Star Wars legend's untimely passing in December last year posed a major problem for the studio. Though Fisher had finished her work in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the actress hadn't been able to finish shooting her scenes for Star Wars: Episode 9, a film which Lucasfilm planned to center on the Star Wars franchise's plucky space princess turned Resistance general.

Many fans protested the use of CGI to bring Carrie back to life in Episode 9, and Lucasfilm was forced to take an alternate route – writing Leia off the sequel trilogy as early as The Last Jedi.

However, while speaking at an event at the New York Comic-Con last weekend (via Inverse), Fisher's co-star Mark Hamill went ahead and revealed that Leia would actually be making it to the final chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Apparently Lucasfilm has no intentions of killing off Leia in The Last Jedi, instead opting to "close (Fisher's) story out in 9."

Of course, knowing how lose Hamill was with Fisher, it's very likely that the Star Wars legend's little slip-up has a lot of credibility and that the actor's going to get into a lot of trouble again with the bigwigs at Lucasfilm and Disney.

The only question now is that if Lucasfilm does close Leia's story in Episode 9, is whether the General will make an appearance, or whether the studio would opt to end Leia's arc with a casual mention in the dialogue.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres December 15, 2017.
