Logan Director Concerned About The Future Of R-Rated Films In The Wake Of Disney Acquisition

A lot of Marvel fans might be feeling giddy after hearing that Disney and 21st Century Fox have finally settled the studio's acquisition agreements, however, some Fox directors are a tad bit worried about the future of the films and franchises they're involved with.

In an interview with Deadline, Logan director James Mangold expresses his concern over the Disney's Fox acquisition, saying that he's worried about the future of R-rated movies.

"If they're actually changing their mandate, if what they're supposed to do alters, that would be sad to me because it just means fewer movies. The real thing that happens when you make a movie rated R, behind the scenes, is that the studio has to adjust to the reality that there will be no Happy Meals. There will be no action figures."

R-rated movies have thrived under Fox, and while Disney has its successful franchises, it's understandable that some would be worried that the Mickey Mouse House might want to tone down the exploration of adult themes in the studio's future projects. Disney is a family-friendly company, and during a recent call, Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger told investors including Marvel and Lucasfilm that the company had no intention of ever making a hard-R movie. Of course, there's also the possibility Disney won't try to interfere with the success of Fox's R-rated franchises like Deadpool and Logan. Let's hope that's the case.
