Jared Leto Denies Giving Used Condoms To Suicide Squad Castmates

Before Suicide Squad started showing last year, there were numerous reports about how Jared Leto might have gotten carried away when staying in character. As the Joker, he apparently gave his castmates a number of unwanted gifts, including used condoms and anal beads. Leto has supposedly set the record straight, claiming that he didn't do any of that and reporters just wanted a juicy story.

He confirmed this during a special on Entertainment Weekly Radio, whilst promoting Blade Runner 2049. Apparently, these were never true and fans shouldn't have believed it in the first place. Keep in mind that the actor had also previously claimed that he did give these "gifts" during the film's press releases, with his castmates even confirming some of the news.

It really makes this statement hard to believe, that's for sure:

"Most of it was total bullsh–.... Like that I was giving used condoms to people, which was not true. It doesn't matter how loud you shout or hold up a sign with your pants off in Times Square — people will run the story that they want."

Why Leto is choosing to blame reporters now is a mystery, since he seemingly indulged into these accusations before. Maybe he and the studio thought the rumors would add interest in Suicide Squad. Perhaps he is lying and is trying to save face a whole year after, which seems unlikely.

In the end, it doesn't matter since Suicide Squad made money and a sequel is underway. Leto is set to return as the Joker in a spin-off movie with Harley Quinn.
