Iron Fist’s Finn Jones Gives His Own Take to Playing Danny Rand

Iron Fist a.k.a. Danny Rand may be the last and most unknown of The Defenders so far. But before you try to get some more reference material in comic books before diving into the latest Marvel Netflix series, you may want to hold off on that one.

That's because actor Finn Jones revealed that he'll play it as his own character, as he ensured not to make take too much influence from the original source material. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he revealed:

"This is my version of Iron Fist, this is Scott Buck's and Netflix's and Marvel TV's version of Iron Fist. He's a child trapped in a man's body. Iron Fist is like Danny in his adolescence, and The Defenders is like Danny taking responsibility and moving forward with his purpose."

One thing that can make his dynamic work within The Defenders team is that Danny is looking for a family, a mentor figure, and people whom he can learn from. Of course, there's still the challenge of breaking through his barriers. It's not surprising that he's not the most trusting of people given his background.

Even Jones himself feels a certain pull towards playing the character. He reveals that they share the similarity of being orphans, so the need to find more and overcome the kind of loneliness that comes with the territory is something familiar. At the same time, the contradictions in Danny—the sense of loneliness but also of optimism—is something that can also play up The Defenders dynamics in terms of team-building.

"What we're seeing [in The Defenders] is Danny is definitely becoming more at ease, I'd say, and more comfortable with his environment because he has others around him, because he's not going at it alone anymore. You get to see Danny's brighter side coming out, and he's not so tormented by this, but also because he found his purpose."

Iron Fist will be out on March 17. On the other hand, The Defenders still doesn't have a definite release date on Netflix, but rather a vague 2017 peg.
