Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Director Got This Great Advice

When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finally hit theaters, fans and critics thought that the movie was able to expound on what the first movie had already introduced: a solid story that's fresh in many ways.

However, the refreshing feel that the two movies had delivered almost didn't happen. Speaking with Moviemaker.com, director James Gunn shared that it took the great words of Joss Whedon—a man who has already made his mark in the Marvel Studios franchise—to bring out the "James Gunn-ness" of his work.

"When Joss Whedon read the first draft that I had written of Guardians of the Galaxy, he thought it wasn't ‘James Gunn enough.' I had actually been holding back. I was afraid that to make a huge commercial movie, I had to make it like other movies. Joss said, ‘I like the parts that are ‘James Gunn.' Just make it more ‘James Gunn' And that's what I did."

Combine that with Gunn's self-confessed insane imagination and his tendency to see what works and what doesn't in every movie, then you know that there's bound to be a great work of art somewhere.

As if to serve as proof, Gunn has already been looking at ways to innovate his style when he finally gets down to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It looks like we'll be seeing more of his "crazy imagination."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Kurt Russell.
