Black Panther Training Vid Shows Martial Arts Moves

When you're the hero who has taken up the throne to Wakanda you know that the actor who portrays that hero has some big shoes to fill. And in the case of Chadwick Boseman, who has portrayed Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, he's showing just how capable he can be in doing that.

Recently, the star has shared his very own training video via Instagram where he was undergoing some tough knife-fighting training. He even quotes, perhaps as inspiration, martial artist Morihei Ueshiba:

"The purpose of training is to tighten up the slack, toughen the body, and polish the spirit."

In the video, we get to see some nice choreography between Boseman and his trainer. They're practicing what could be parries and attacks, with Boseman doing a lot of the parrying, while his opponent seems to be doing attacks with a knife.

The agile movements are very much a good match for Boseman's character T'Challa. And I'm pretty sure the use of this particular martial arts is the best fit for the character.

I'm actually excited about this, especially since this particular choreography is a big hark to Filipino Martial Arts, specifically Kali or Arnis. It's something that I've tried myself, and it's an amazing thing to do and watch in training—just imagine how good it will be applied in Black Panther.

Black Panther is expected in theaters February next year. It's going to be directed by Ran Coogler, and stars Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, and Andy Serkis.
