Did The Kingsman 2 Marketing Spoil Too Much? Matthew Vaughn Thinks So

Kingsman: The Golden Circle comes stateside tomorrow, and it has plenty of fans excited. The trailers have done a good job at showcasing the film's tone and action, though some will say it revealed too much. One of those people is the film's director Matthew Vaughn, who feels that the marketing revealed too much of the movie's surprises.

During an interview with Deadline, Vaughn expressed his frustrations with the way the sequel was marketed. He feels that the marketing team spoiled a lot of the film's big surprises, one of which is the return of Colin Firth's Galahad. The fact that the actor was seen in one of the trailers was bad enough, but some of the posters flat out show him in the flesh like it isn't a big deal.

"I think the marketing department's done a bloody good job of giving away a lot of the twists and turns. That's been a private bugbear of mine, and I guess now a public one. They insist it is the right thing to do. I think it isn't great for the viewing experience and the way I structured the first act. It definitely has left me feeling a bit hamstrung; the narrative thrust has been a little bit weakened. There are a few little twists and turns left that I'm definitely fighting like a crazy person right now to make sure those don't get given away."

No one can really blame him since Firth's return should have been a big moment. His death in the first film was heartbreaking, so having the character pop up in the poster like nothing happened feels a bit insulting. Vaughn is hoping the few twists left do a decent job at surprising the audience, but Galahad's return would have been the biggest twist.

Fans will be able to see Kingsman: The Golden Circle this weekend. While it will probably be a fun movie with good jokes and great action, it would have been better if some plot points weren't spoiled in advance.
