Black Panther Surpasses Justice League At The Box Office


Black Panther just keeps breaking records, pushing past preceding comic book movies as it continues achieve commercial and critical success.

Not only is the King of Wakanda's (Chadwick Boseman) standalone film tracking to earn an estimated $235 million during its four-day opening weekend, but it's become the fifth placer in the list of films with the highest opening haul, trailing just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its $288 million haul and Star Wars: The Last Jedi's $241.5 million earnings.

Its numbers have even allowed it to place above Justice League's domestic earnings during its entire theatrical run. The DC Extended Universe movie earned just $228.6 million at the domestic box office during its entire stay in cinemas – a sad and sordid affair for Warner Brother's burgeoning superhero franchise.

But Justice League isn't the only film Black Panther's beat. The movie also surpassed quite a number of Marvel's films, including The Incredible Hulk which earned $134.8 Million, Captain America: The First Avenger's $176.6 million, Thor's $181 million, Antman's $180.2 million and all the other Marvel films that come under the movie's $235 million opening.

Of course, it's no surprise that Black Panther just keeps winning. The film as spent more than twenty years in development, and in an age where people become more aware of the need for diversity and representation, the release of Marvel's predominantly black superhero movie is nothing but timely.

Black Panther is currently screening in cinemas.
