Benedict Cumberbatch Thinks The MCU Will Move On To Explore The Multiverse

It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe might start exploring the multiverse soon.

Though most of Marvel Comic's popular stories cling to a singular timeline, the mythos of the franchise has long since stretched over quite a number of universes.

Now, as Marvel moves closer towards the fourth phase of its cinematic universe, Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch speculates that the franchise might branch out to include stories from the multiverse.

Thor: Ragnarok's digital release just recently released and in it fans got to see a special feature which detailed the first ten years of the MCU (via Cinema Blend). The special video included interviews with a lot of Marvel's stars, and in Cumberbatch's segment, the British actor got to talking about the MCU moving towards a multiverse.

"What we've seen happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is this ever-expanding couture of superheroes," Cumberbatch said. "I think now we're at the stage where this universe, even within our world, has gotten quite crowded and it's just about to explode into other dimensions."

Cumberbatch does make a strong point. The MCU's filled to the brim with so many heroes – it would make sense that the franchise would move on and explore other dimensions. Besides, Marvel is planning to expand its cosmic universe, and what would be more cosmic than a multiverse, yes?

Cumberbatch will reprise his role as the Sorcerer Supreme in Avengers: Infinity War later on May 4, 2018.
