Benedict Cumberbatch On What Makes Doctor Strange So Different From Other Marvel Films

Marvel always makes sure to bring something new to the table with each new phase of its Cinematic Universe. With Phase 3, that task is left to the hands of Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange.

In an interview with Empire Online, Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays The Sorcerer Supreme himself, has explained exactly how Doctor Strange has set itself apart from any other Marvel movie.

It's a very different feel, different hero and different set of circumstances to what we've seen before. It's another moment during Marvel's evolution.
We felt free to go as far as we could imagine, so we're doing a lot of things that I think have not been done before. Once we'd crossed a certain line we just kept going.

Of course, no actor would actually say anything detrimental to the success of his/her film. While Derrickson's upcoming movie looks like another promising addition to the Marvel franchise, if it doesn't exactly work out, MCU's plans may undergo a re-shuffling. We already saw this with Inhumans, which Marvel decided to just remove from its release schedules.

The future of the Marvel franchise practically lies in the hands of Doctor Strange. Let's just hope the upcoming film will be effective in bringing the MCU into a new superhero territory.

Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4.
