Ben Affleck Officially Drops Out From The Batman

Despite the constantly shifting reports regarding Ben Affleck's status in the DC Extended Universe, fans have been hoping that the filmmaker would stay on as the Dark Knight of Warner Brothers burgeoning superhero franchise. Now, with Matt Reeve's The Batman set for production on 2020, Affleck's status has been confirmed – Batfleck is leaving the movie for good.

Deadline has the newest update on Ben Affleck's stay in the DCEU, and according to the publication, the actor will be keeping away from Matt Reeve's The Batman movie, stepping aside for a younger actor to take on his role as DC's Caped Crusader.

Affleck has also seemingly confirmed his plans to leave the role. Taking to Twitter, Affleck shared the news about leaving The Batman, saying that he's excited to see Reeve's vision come to life when The Batman premieres in Summer 2021.

Fans' responses to the actor's post have been heartbreaking. Sure, that might have been a whole lot of fans against Affleck as Batman when he was first cast as the Dark Knight, but after seeing the actor make his debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice many changed their minds. While Affleck's Batman was darker than many other takes on the character (including Christian Bale's), fans could help but fall in love with the physicality that the actor brought to his role.

However, Affleck seems to have been openly disappointed in the early films in the DCEU, especially with the lacklustre reviews of Batman v Superman and with the poor performance of Justice League.

Guess we'll have to make do with someone new from now on.

The Batman is set to premiere sometime 2021.
