Avengers: Endgame Directors Explain Why Tony Stark Tribute Was Deleted

Fans probably don't want to change anything about Avengers: Endgame, but that was until a deleted scene surfaced online. The sequence takes place right after the death of Tony Stark and shows his fellow Avengers kneeling in respect for the fallen companion. So why was this emotional scene deleted from the film? Joe and Anthony Russo have finally broken their silence.

The Russo brothers recently took part in a special Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit where they answered questions from fans. Not surprisingly, one of the queries asked why the emotional Iron Man tribute was left out of the final Endgame cut. However, the Russos had a logical reason for that.

"We found the Avengers kneeling scene incredibly emotional as well, but when played in the run of the film, it felt incredibly similar to the moment when all of the heroes stood on the shore at Tony's funeral, paying their respects to him outside his home. The two scenes, when in the film together, seemed to fight one another, and created a repetitious ending," they wrote.

Personally, it would have been great if the kneeling scene was kept in the movie. On the other hand, the Russo brothers had a choice of whether to do away with the tribute or Tony's funeral. Since they had previously stated that the funeral scene was one of the most expensive sequences to film, it's understandable why it was easier to remove the tribute.

The Avengers: Endgame DVD and Blu-ray will be available starting August 13.
