Andy Serkis Contests Mark Hamill By Reading Trump Tweets As Gollum

Mark Hamill had been famously reading Donald Trump tweets with his signature Joker voice, but it looks like Andy Serkis may be giving him a run for his money. In an appearance on Stephen Colbert's show, Serkis tries reading Trump tweets in his classic Gollum/Smeagol voice—and it's pretty fantastic.

The bit starts at 3:49:

What's probably the most amazing thing is that Serkis can instantly turn the voice on. It's been a while since I've seen Gollum onscreen, and it's fun to see Serkis get back into character even just for a tiny bit.

Though a traditional actor before, Serkis has somehow become the face of motion-capture acting. After his stint as Gollum, he then moved on to play King Kong in Peter Jackson's reboot of the classic movie. Now Serkis famously plays the lead, Caesar, in the new Planet of the Apes movies.

Just for fun, there's also a video online of Gollum receiving an award from MTV:

Serkis is a pretty great actor, and he comes back onscreen this week on War for the Planet of the Apes. Here's the synopsis:

Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.

War for the Planet of the Apes comes out July 14.
