Adam Driver Honors On-Screen Mother Carrie Fisher

Kylo Ren might have put a lightsaber right through his father in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it looks like the hot-headed Knight of the Ren has a soft spot for his mother.

Speaking with Stephen Colbert on The Tonight Show With Stephen Colbert last night, Kylo Ren's actor, Adam Driver, reveals how much grief he has for the passing of his on-screen mother, Carrie Fisher. Actress, writer and mental health advocate, Fisher was best known for her iconic role as Leia Skywalker, Kylo Ren's mother. Many fans of the Star Wars franchise were devastated when news broke out the Fisher had died of after experiencing cardiac arrest, and that included Driver.

Remembering legendary actress on the talk show, Driver said:

"As you can kind of tell from meeting her, she burns very bright and has such a great, very generous energy. For that suddenly not to be on set, or we're talking about it in publicity or just in life, when you kind of see her around at a Star Wars event, or anywhere, to have... her character -- not just her character in the movie, but her character missing from that very small unit -- is a tragedy."

Driver also revealed in the interview that the last time that he saw Fisher was on the Star Wars: Episode VIII set where the legendary actress reprised her role as Princess Leia. With a giant hole left in the hearts of fans, it seems like the cast and crew of the Star Wars franchise continue to grieve the death of Fisher.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to premiere in cinemas on Dec. 14 this year
