This Ghostbusters 2016 Fan-Made Trailer Could Be Better Than The Original

The trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters 2016 reboot was released by Sony yesterday to mixed reactions. Some people were excited, but most fans didn’t take a liking to the idea of a reboot where the characters have all been replaced by women. Many wanted a sequel, but Feig decided to take an entirely different approach.

Well, fans of the original Ghostbusters, Mike Colver and Wes Adams of the Circle City Ghostbusters, feel that the new trailer doesn’t need all that dialogue, so they created an extreme re-edit of the official trailer and well, people like it better.

Colver and Adams’ version is set to a more upbeat tune as opposed to the original trailer’s softer piano mix. Of course, the change is noticeable and the trailer is transformed and infused with more adrenaline, similar to the rock vibe seen in the 1990’s animated series and which is what fans had been expecting.

What’s more noticeable in the extreme re-edit is the complete omission of dialogue.

I think the official Ghostbusters trailer is trying to be funny and it wants to establish first the new characters before focusing on the ghost-busting. By retrospect, the fan re-edit did not include even the humorous banters in the official trailer. It jumped right into the action.

Paul Feig’s writing style is known for cast improvisations and not everyone appreciates this.

Honestly, I don’t think the official trailer is all too bad. It could have been worse. I’m not setting my opinion on stone yet. After all, there’s still a chance that the next trailers for the new Ghostbusters will redeem the movie.

The Ghostbusters fan re-edit doesn’t really provide a context to the new characters, but in any case, I think it’s highly entertaining. It certainly gave a lot of fans what they want.

Isn’t that what studios should be aiming for after all?

Maybe the next trailer should combine both the tone of the first and this fan re-edit, then perhaps everyone will be pleased.

Ghostbusters will hit theaters on July 15.
