Redo of Healer, based on a novel named Kaifuku Jutusushi no Yarinaoshi or Kaoyari written by Rui Tsukiyo, is a dark fantasy anime series about a healer named Keyaru, who was exploited again and again by others, and one day he was convinced that a healing sorcerer was the strongest class. However, by the time he realized that potential, Keyaru was deprived of everything, so he used his healing magic on the world itself to go back four years to redo everything.

"I'm going to redo it all so I can have the future I desire," Keyaru, the anti-hero protagonist says in the opening of Episode 1, titled The Healer Starts Over. The healer feels wronged by his allies, and after an uninspiring battle sequence with his allies four years ago, he was able to defeat the demonic villain and acquire the Philosopher's Stone. Despite the warning of losing his memories from Flare, the pink-haired princess of the Jioral Kingdom, Keyaru uses the Philosopher's Stone's power anyway to return four years ago, so he can exact revenge against those who wronged him and fulfill the future he desires. He's also granted the "power of the spirits" by a green-haired fairy, so he was able to regain his memories.
His drive for revenge is a guilty pleasure to the viewer. Who cares about the anime's generic medieval world or mediocre character designs? You want to see the devious Keyaru get what he wants after being wrong. He's a gifted healer, for sure, and the Jioral Kingdom employs him to use his talents. Even the great swordswoman he heals in this episode looks attractive, with a broken arm he heals with ease.
Of course, there's a downside to his power: He can feel the terrible experiences of the person he heals, and he even faints, but overall, his healing power is incredible. As shown in the flashback, he was able to use healing as an offensive spell to wipe out the shadowy-looking spirits. He's also able to "gain" the experiences of those he heals, and this is clear when he decides to have sex with the maids in the castle, so that he can absorb their experiences. Keyaru's healing powers are ridiculously overpowered, and it's exciting to watch him break the healer stereotype — he's far from noble, and his intentions are nefarious. Because of this, anyone can see him as a sadistic villain, but after watching Flare's heartless comment towards the end of the episode, you'd want to see Keyaru get his sweet revenge against that bitch.
Redo of Healer's premise is surely tantalizing. This reminds me of the classic hentai series, Bible Black, but this anime's medieval setting and what seems like a female-dominated society give it a more innocent air despite its dark fantasy appeal. However, the first episode is far from innocent. The sex scene with the maids shows Keyaru's hunger for desires he was deprived from in his previous life, and you can tell that this is just the beginning of a life completely opposite of what he used to have. Nothing explicitly hardcore was shown but seeing his dark intentions, I have a feeling the next episodes won't be as tame.
Released in January 2021, Redo of Healer is not just for the hentai enthusiasts, but also for fans of dark fantasy anime with a twisted premise. It doesn't have the psychological depth or compelling plot as Death Note but the anti-hero in Redo might remind you of Yagami Light, but instead of using his power to bring justice to the world, he is using it to get what he wants: sex and revenge. If you want to get the most of this show, watch the uncensored version if you can find it online, but beware of pirated sites.
