Wonder Woman Actress & Director Talk About Making a Badass

There are many reasons to create a movie, particularly one about a superhero who could very well become a great role model to viewers.

This is what Wonder Woman is shaping up to be, apart from being what could be DC Comics' saving grace and upward trudge towards better films. At the premiere of the film at the Pantages theater, Variety spoke to Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins on their take on Wonder Woman, and what they had set out to create in the first place.

For Gadot, it was all about creating the character who can be that role model:

"Growing up, I had Superman and Batman to look up to. All the girls and all the boys, that's what we had. I think that it's so important that we also have strong female figures to look u to, and Wonder Woman is an amazing one. It's great that after 75 or 76 years she finally gets her own movie."

In the same vein, Jenkins also shared that she enjoyed directing the film, not because it starred a woman, but rather because it was a chance to create a movie about a hero. Based on the trailers, I think we can safely say that there's a lot to look forward to with Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman will be out in theaters on June 2.

Synopsis:

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
