Viewers Were Confused After Watching Captain America: Civil War Test Screenings

Captain America: Civil War will see the climactic battle between two factions of the Earth's mightiest superheroes, headed by Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). As Civil War heads on to the big screen, fans as well as the heroes will be challenged to a choice which side they're on.

Test screenings have begun, and it's expected that viewers would have by now come to a conclusion as to which side they think is the better one. Apparently, that isn't the case. Test audiences left theaters as baffled as the Avengers with regard to who was right between Captain America and Iron Man, according to Empire via What Culture.

It looks like Captain America: Civil War audiences are in for a surprise. Empire revealed that test viewers are still debating which side was right. Surprisingly though, Directors Joe and Anthony intentionally made the film confusing at the end.

The directors said:

Hopefully you'll leave wondering if Steve and Tony are both acting in selfish interests.

In the trailers, we see the government presenting the Avengers with the Sokovia Accords, which is meant to regulate the actions of the heroes. We know that Iron Man is all for it, while the Cap isn't since he believes it could end up being controlled by corrupt politicians.

Meanwhile, Steve Rogers has chosen to stand by Bucky, who is being arrested by the government for Hydra's crimes. Tony Stark is interested in this since Hydra used Bucky to kill the Starks, as explained in several fan theories.

And while Bucky had been obviously brainwashed, Civil War will reveal whether Bucky remains a feared assassin or a prisoner of war. For Stark, brainwashing doesn't count and Bucky should be held accountable for the murders.

By retrospect, Tony is pretty much the villain in the comics, which would likely have most fans siding with Steve Rogers.

It's apparent that Captain America: Civil War's plot line is far from the comics. And while the movie will challenge fans' ideas of the characters, it looks like it will also challenge fans' moral inclinations. Sounds exciting!

Captain America: Civil War is slated for release on May 6.
