VALORANT New Map Fracture is Inspired by The Lord of the Rings' Battle of Helm's Deep

On Wednesday, Riot Games revealed the new VALORANT map, Fracture as well as the new content players can unlock in the Episode 3, Act 2: Reflection Battlepass, and fans are hyped to find out Fracture's unique features that will surely bring an interesting approach from the competitive perspective. But did you know that the gameplay of Fracture is inspired by the iconic Battle of Helm's Deep from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings?

The addition of Fracture brings the total map count of VALORANT to seven. When asked about the inspiration, one of Riot's developers mentioned one of the most iconic battles in cinematic history, the Battle of Helm's Deep, from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Fracture brings a unique twist to how attackers and defenders spawn, making interesting changes to how matches start.

Instead of the typical attackers and defenders spawning on opposite sides of the map, Fracture features an H-shape layout, where defenders spawn at the center, and attackers spawn on either side of hte map.

In a press release, Joe Lansford, VALORANT Level Designer, explained how the design of Fracture is inspired by the Battle of Helm's Deep from The Lord of the Rings.

"I took at least some of my inspiration from the Battle of Helm's Deep. As the orcs are breaking down the gates, Aragorn and Théoden (and the remaining squadzinho) ride out to meet them. 'Now for wrath, now for ruin and the red dawn!' Gandalf and the Riders of Rohan storm down the mountain from the other side. When you're on defense and both A and B players push out to flip the tables and pinch at attackers instead, it always reminds me of this moment."

It would be interesting to see how this new map layout will give players a unique gameplay experience that previous maps couldn't offer, and hopefully, we will get epic moments that will remind us of the iconic The Lord of the Rings battle.
