Two Superman Specials Coming Out Before Bendis' Takeover

After April's Action Comics #1000, both Superman titles will be on a two-month hiatus to make room for Brian Michael Bendis' Man of Steel mini-series, which will lay the foundation for his runs on both ongoing comics. However, fans of Dan Jurgens' Action Comics or Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason's Superman have nothing to worry about since these creators will have oversized specials before Bendis takes over both titles.

DC Comics has announced that Jurgens will finish out his run with the 48-page one-shot Action Comics Special #1, with Will Conrad on art. Tomasi and Gleason will also give fans of their run closure with Superman Special #1, which will also be 48-pages.

Jurgens' one-shot will focus on the relationship between Superman and Lex Luthor, something he has been doing since Rebirth. Tomasi and Gleason will end their run by having Superman return to Dinosaur Island, which was previously explored in one of the series' earlier arcs.

Interestingly enough, both specials will have two bonus stories each.

Action Comics Special #1 will have the Superman story originally solicited for DC Universe Holiday Special 2017 #1 by Max Landis and Francis Manapul, along with a brand-new story by Mark Russell and Jill Thompson. This one-shot will be coming out on May 2.

Superman Special #1 will have bonus stories as well. The first will also be from Mark Russell, this time, joined by artist Bryan Hitch. The second will be from Sonic the Hedgehog veteran Ian Flynn and artist Kaare Andrews. This comes out on May 16.
