Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Home Release is Missing a Director’s Commentary

Lucasfilm just announced the Blu-Ray release for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker today, and together with the movie's home release trailer comes a full listof bonus features that fans can expect from the new disc.

While Lucasfilm is cramming plenty of special features in The Rise of Skywalker's home release, we couldn't help but notice that the Star Wars Blu-Ray disc doesn't come with a director's commentary for the movie. Sure, there's a feature-length behind-the-scenes documentary and a bunch of featurettes offering a deeper look into specific scenes in the film, but no, the movie doesn't have any director's commentary.

The absence of the common bonus feature seems a little bit odd knowing that the film's Star Wars sequel trilogy predecessors like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi came with directors commentary in the bonus features of the films' home releases.

Why in the world does The Rise of Skywalker not have any sort of director's commentary? One of the biggest reasons why Lucasfilm opted against the director's commentary track for Episode IX is the backlash against the movie.

Sure, there might have been a lot of excitement building up over The Rise of Skywalker, one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019, however, Episode IX didn't do so well among fans and critics. The film was littered with way too much fan service – so much so that the film forgot about the importance of a proper plot.

Why do you think The Rise of Skywalker's home release misses a director's commentary? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
