Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Director on Whether Baby Yoda Makes Appearance

Star Wars: The Mandalorian might be set years before the beginning of Disney's sequel trilogy, but ever since Baby Yoda appeared in the episode, "The Child," fans have been hoping that the adorable 50-year-old baby finds his way into Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

It's easy to see why fans would want Baby Yoda in the new Star Wars movie – not only does the child's existence mean so much to Star Wars lore, fans want to see what becomes of Baby Yoda when he's grown. Like the Jedi Grandmaster himself, Baby Yoda has a strong connection to the Force.

Star Wars fans aren't the only ones taken by Baby Yoda's charms. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams can't help but gush over the child – though that doesn't necessarily mean that Baby Yoda is going to appear in the highly anticipated sequel trilogy entry.

Speaking in an interview with Variety, Abrams shuts down speculation that Baby Yoda might have a cameo in The Rise of Skywalker.

"Baby Yoda is not in this movie," Abrams tells Variety host Marc Malkin, "[He's] the cutest thing in the history of time. How do you deny Baby Yoda? You cannot."

It's such a shame that Baby Yoda won't be in Episode IX. Fans have fallen in love with the child the first time they got to lay their eyes on him in the first episode of The Mandalorian. There's just something about a green, wide-eyed, fuzzy, Force-sensitive child that squeezes the heart. Guess we'll just have to wait for the next episode of The Mandalorian for more Baby Yoda.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is currently streaming on Disney+. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiers December 20, 2019.
