Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Already Shortlisted for Oscars

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hasn't even premiered, yet it seems like the highly-anticipated entry in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy is already getting attention at the Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just recently released a shortlist of nominees in the nine categories set out for the 92nd Academy Awards, and it looks like The Rise of Skywalker is part of that list. The upcoming Star Wars film has yet to premiere, yet it seems like the third and final entry in Disney's sequel trilogy entry has been included in the shortlist.

The Mickey Mouse House probably submitted the film for consideration, giving Academy Voters the chance to view early copies of one of the biggest films of the year.

According to the list uploaded by the Academy, the upcoming Star Wars film has been short-listed for best original score and for best visual effects at the 92nd Academy Awards. The Rise of Skywalker is currently competing with another Disney entry, Avengers: Endgame.

Though it's a shame that The Rise of Skywalker didn't get into the main categories of next year's Oscars, it's amazing to see that the film has already been included in the shortlist for the 92nd Academy Awards even though the film's yet to premiere.

We hope that the movie does get some recognition though, even if it's just for best original score and for best visual effects. The Rise of Skywalker means a lot to the Star Wars franchise. Not only does the film mean the end of the sequel trilogy, but it also means the end of the Skywalker saga.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
