Star Wars: The Mandalorian Sparks Strange Change to Golden Globes Rules

It looks like the Golden Globes is changing a rule about eligibility because of Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

In Star Wars: The Mandalorian, lead star Pedro Pascal is kept covered for almost the entire first season of the series. As a Mandalorian, Din Djarin keeps to a strict code that disallows the warrior from showing his face underneath his helmet. Because of this, we only get to see Pascal underneath the helmet during the season finale.

Though Star Wars fans have been able to accept Pascal as Din Djarin despite the fact that they've only seen him once without his armor, the entertainment industry still feels a little bit confused about the matter. How can Pascal become eligible for awards if people don't "see" him playing the character?

It seems like Pascal's role in The Mandalorian has left him ineligible for the Golden Globes.

According to a report by Variety, a new rule for the Golden Globes has been revealed by the Hollywood Foreign Press, stipulating that "voice-only performances are not eligible in any acting category."

This new alteration to the Golden Globe criteria of selection has been revealed following the confusion over the Mandalorian debate during last year's awards season. It seems like the organizers of the Golden Globe need the actor's face to be seen onscreen for them to qualify for the award.

Even if the actor is on the set of a film or series, if he's masked for the entirety of the performance, they can't qualify for the Golden Globe.

It's such a shame that the Golden Globe has decided to make this sort of alteration. Pascal did an excellent job portraying Din Djarin – he did an excellent job bringing the character to life even though he didn't always do the physical scenes in the series.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is available for streaming on Disney+.
