Star Wars Officially Pushes Out Darth Plagueis’ Backstory Out of Canon

Darth Palgueis might be popular among hardcore Star Wars fans, however, it seems like Lucasfilm has decided to push the Sith Lord's old backstory outside of Star Wars canon.

According to a report by Screen Rant,Star Wars is now offering a different origin for Darth Plagueis in E.K. Johnston's new canon novel, Queen's Peril. A major part of the book is set immediately before the events of George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy.

That includes the time covered in the Expanded Universe book Darth Plagueis by James Luceno. This novel details Darth Plagueis back story after the character was mentioned in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The book attracted attention from Star Wars fans when it released in 2012 because there were rumors going around that the author had coordinated with Lucas when he had written Darth Plagueis.

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the studio decided that all materials in the Expanded Universe would be considered non-canon. Of course, that included Darth Plagueis, though many still believe that the book should be left in Star Wars' lore.

Now, Queen's Peril offers fans a new story for Plagueis. Unlike Darth Plagueis which presented Palpatine as an apprentice under Plagueis during the events of The Phantom Menace, the new book Queen's Peril suggests that Darth Sidious was the definitive Lord of the Sith throughout the prequel trilogy.

With Queen's Peril in place, Darth Plagueis is now being pushed further away from cannon.
