It looks like the future of the Star Wars franchise lies on television.

Now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is closing in on the end of its theatrical release, fans have been wondering what the future of everyone’s favorite galaxy far, far away might be. Doubling down on the Mickey Mouse House’s plans to put the Star Wars film franchise on hiatus, Disney CEO Bob Iger says that Star Wars' future lies all on television.

Disney held a shareholder’s meeting this week, and during the investors call (via Indie Wire), Iger discussed its plans for its major media franchises and according to the media executive for Star Wars “the priority in the next few years is television.”

This means that Disney is going to put most of its efforts in Lucasfilm’s projects for Disney+, the Mickey Mouse House’s new streaming site.

Of course, it’s hard not to see how Star Wars: The Mandalorian, may have affected this decision. Jon Favreau’s new live-action Star Wars series has been nothing short of a success. Not only did the series manage to gain favor with critics, but it also won the heart of the Star Wars fanbase, winning over fans with Pedro Pascal’s Mando and with the endearing, doe-eyed swamp rat, Baby Yoda.

Right now Lucasfilm has two other Star Wars live-action series planned for Disney+. There’s the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff focusing on Diego Luna’s Captain Cassian Andor and then there’s the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series promising the return of Ewan McGregor.
