Star Wars Fans Hope For Chuck Wendig’s Reinstatement Now That Disney Has Rehired James Gunn

Marvel fans were pretty surprised when Disney decided to rehire Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn last week. The director had been axed from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when an alt-right extremist dredged up insensitive and inappropriate tweets that the filmmaker made fourteen years in the past – a move which sparked major controversy last year. Now that Gunn has been brought back into the fold, calls have been made for Marvel Comics to bring back Star Wars comic book writer, Chuck Wendig.

Taking to social media, Star Wars fans have begun rallying for the return of Wendig. The prolific writer made his foray into the Star Wars franchise when he began work on Aftermath. Wendig faced trouble when he included LGBTQ characters in his projects, and the writer immediately fired back at the trolls.

However, the Star Wars comic book writer was fired from Marvel Comics because executives believed that his tweets were too political and too vulgar for the company. Wendig was very vocal about the firing, announcing the reason behind his departure to the public. To the writer, Marvel had made the wrong call, saying that the comic book publisher's decision would only encourage trolls.

Now, with Gunn back in the directorial chair for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans are hoping that Marvel Comics lets Wendig return as well.

While we're hoping that Marvel Comics follow Disney's example, there's one major problem – Marvel Comics has been very conservative regarding its projects as of late.

Then again, if Disney, a family-friendly company, could re-hire Gunn, then why not Marvel Comics, huh?

Let's wait and see.
