Star Wars: Episode IX’s Adam Driver And The Endgame Of The Sequel Trilogy

Lucasfilm might have Star Wars: Episode IX's secrets under wraps, but that doesn't mean that stars like Adam Driver can't talk about the process that they experienced while working on the film.

Speaking in an interview with Deadline for the awards buzz he's received for his role in BlackkKlansman by Spike Lee, Driver got to talk about his work on Episode IX and how the film is building towards an endgame for the sequel trilogy. In the interview, Driver talks about the frustrations he has with film compared to theater, saying that he only has one shot to get things right for Episode IX.

"With Star Wars, I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that's where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that. It feels very theatrical if anything. Because in the plays that I've done, a six-month run, on the very last day, you finally feel like, "Oh, now I have a better understanding of what it is that I want to do. I wish we could do this all over again." Working on a play, the questions you can ask yourself are infinite, and that's what's torturous about film sometimes – you only have one shot to get it right. And you can do a lot of takes, but we're not all going to get back together again and do this. But for something you're doing for six years, you still have a chance to go back and make something a little bit more articulated."

Of course, Driver wouldn't want to upset the executives at Lucasfilms, so the actor doesn't exactly reveal what kind of "information" he was told, and who gave this "piece of information to him." Still, if there is an endgame to the sequel trilogy than this means that we're going to be coming full circle once we head on to Episode IX.

This wouldn't come as a surprise seeing The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams at the helm of Episode IX. We're pretty sure that the filmmaker will try to incorporate some of his earliest ideas into the film, potentially reviving subplots and threads in the movie.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to premiere on December 20, 2019.
