It looks like Universal has decided to bring in Jurassic World and original Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow to work on an upcoming Atlantis movie.
Deadline was the first to break the news today, announcing Universal's new Atlantis movie, a thriller action film taking place on a lost continent swimming underneath the Indian Ocean somewhere between India, Africa, and Oceania. Following a script by Alien: Covenant writer Dante Harper based on a story written by Trevorrow and Bridge of Spies writer Matt Charman, the new Atlantis movie hopes to feature a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology lost to the sea.
This isn't the first that Trevorrow's been trying to get the project up on its feet. According to Deadline, the filmmaker has been working on Atlantis since 2018. The director decided to keep the project under a strict hush-and-hush policy so that his creative team would have time to build the world before Harper would produce a script.
We're not entirely sure when Trevorrow will begin working on the project. Right now, the filmmaker is set to resume production on the third Jurassic World movie, Dominion. Production on the film was shut down earlier this year due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Work on the project is set to resume in early July. It's going to take a while for Dominion to finish, so Trevorrow's fans may have to wait a little bit longer till they get to see Atlantis on the big screen.
Atlantis has yet to receive a release date but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
