Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Says Episode IX Will Finally Reveal Rey’s True Origin

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have declared Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parents as dead nobodies, but Star Wars fans continue to wonder about the Jakku orphan's origin, hoping that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might reveal Rey as the daughter of a legacy character like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Speaking in an interview with the USA Today to help promote her upcoming film Ophelia, Daisy Ridley was asked a few questions about Star Wars: Episode IX, including questions regarding Rey's parentage.

Surprisingly enough, the British actress promised that everything would be revealed in The Rise of Skywalker, telling fans that they'd really know the truth behind Rey's story at the end of the film.

"[Director J.J. Abrams] did say the question [over the identity of Rey's parents] will be answered," Ridley told the publication, "So, at the end of the film, you know what the dealio is."

This is definitely interesting news. Does this mean that The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams plans to retcon the origin that director Rian Johnson wrote for the character in The Last Jedi?

While some fans might celebrate Rey's new parentage, others might feel disappointed. Rey being the daughter of a couple of nobodies seemed to prove that everyone could be a hero in Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away – not just people related to the Skywalkers.

How about you? Would you prefer to have Rey's parents as nobodies? Or would you want Rey to be connected to a legacy character like Luke or Han or maybe even Lando?
