Star Wars Comics Show How Luke Isn’t Always as Powerful as Fans Think

Traditional Star Wars fans were outraged by director Rian Johnson's decision to turn Luke Skywalker into a hermit in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. They refused to believe that their benevolent hero would be so weak as to run from his mistakes, demanding that Luke be a hero through and through.

However, it seems like Luke wasn't always as strong as everyone believed him to be.

In the second issue of Marvel's Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren (via CBR.com) , we get to see Luke showing off his power by Force-throwing the Knights of Ren and using telekinesis to crush his enemies weapons. However, the comic book also shows a moment of weakness in Luke.

Piloting Lor San Tekka and a young Ben Solo to Elphrona in the Unknown Regions, Luke fails to pick up on Snoke. The powerful Dark Force user is having a telepathic conversation with Ben, corrupting the young son of Han Solo and Leia. Snoke tries to fan Ben's anger towards Luke and his strong feelings of adoration for his grandfather, Darth Vader. The villain does so right under Luke's nose.

This is a great moment of weakness for Luke. How could the Jedi Master not sense Snoke's telepathic conversation with Ben when his nephew is sitting right behind him? Shouldn't he have a shield up for his apprentice?

As it turns out, Luke even has his flaws. He might be a powerful Jedi Master, yet he misses things as well. Seeing all these things don't blame him for his actions in The Last Jedi.
