There might have been a whole lot of excitement when word came out that Star Wars was getting its own Temple Challenge, however, it seems like the new Star Wars series has stumbled across a new hurdle.
Star Wars Jedi Temple Challenge host Ahmed Best (also Star Wars infamous Jar Jar Binks) has just recently announced the series delay on Instagram. Posting on the social media site, the Star Wars actor and series host declared Jedi Temple Challenge's delay saying that he and his team have decided to push back the premiere till June 10 next week to make way for the Black Lives Matter Movement.
"I'm so pumped to share #jeditemplechallenge with everyone. The fan response at Celebration last year was the beginning of my return to the galaxy I love so much. #KelleranBeq "The Sabered Hand" is the first Black number one lead of anything #StarWars and that is so very important to me," Best explained in his post, "I'm also a #producer of the show and that makes me doubly excited to bring this thing to you. But as a black man, a black father, a black producer and black artist I have to consider all that is happening in the world right now."
According to Best, it didn't feel right that he and his team would air Jedi Temple Challenge while others fight for Black people's rights to equality and justice. The series has been pushed back by one week, and when it premieres, the team will air at least two episodes for fans to enjoy. Eight more episodes will follow in the weeks to come.
Star Wars Jedi Temple Challenge is the very first Star Wars game show to come out of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. The series will be available to watch for free on Star Wars Kids' YouTube Channel with Best hosting the show and Jedi Master Kelleran Beq working as the series producer.
The series tests the strength and bravery of young Star Wars fans. Divided into teams of two, Padawans are made to tackle three rounds of challenges, working together to become Jedi Knights.
Star Wars Jedi Temple Challenge premieres June 10.
