Spider-Man Director Sam Raimi Once Forged Stan Lee’s Signature

There's been so much heartache over Stan Lee's death this week. Not only did the Marvel comic book legend create characters that would stand the test of time, but he also genuinely loved his fans, and ever since they learned of his passing Lee's followers have been sharing all the different experiences they've had with Marvel Comics co-founder. One of those who've been opening up about their memories with Lee is Spider-Man director Sam Raimi.

Speaking in an interview together with The Hollywood Reporter, Raimi decided to share a few stories about the experiences he's had with Stan Lee. While this story doesn't directly involve the pop culture icon, it does involve his signature.

"My first Stan Lee experience is pretty bad, actually," Raimi told the publication. "I was an avid reader of Spider-Man and The Avengers in the late '70s, and come 1980, I was working on my first horror film in New York. I was also working as a counselor at a camp in Algonquin Park. One day they decided to have a Marvel banquet and said, 'Can you get Stan Lee to sign some posters?' I was so naive I said OK. I went to Marvel and asked if I could see Stan Lee. And the people there flipped. 'Are you out of your mind?! You can't see Stan Lee!' So I spent the whole cab ride back to the airport signing "Stan Lee" on all these posters. There I was, 20 years old, forging his signature."

It might not be the most honorable memories that Raimi's had of Lee but it certainly is one of the most memorable. After his short stint as a counselor at Algonquin Park, Raimi went on to direct films, one of which included the movie Spider-Man. There, Raimi finally got to work together with Lee thanks to the comic book writer's cameo in the movie.

Right now, Lee still has a few cameo appearances set for the big screen, and that includes his appearance in Avengers 4.

Avengers 4 hits cinemas May 3, 2019.
