Salty Star Wars Fans Protesting The Rise of Skywalker to Spend on Charities Instead

Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy might be a major commercial and critical success, however, there are still some fans who aren't really pleased with the Mickey Mouse House's take on the galaxy far, far away, and now they're planning to boycott the last installment, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Taking to Reddit to protest The Rise of Skywalker, fans against Disney's sequel trilogy have been encouraging others to boycott Episode IX and instead send the money to financially support charities.

The movement which has been dubbed as "Salt to Gold," tells fans who aren't planning to give Disney any more of its money to donate it to charity instead, offering followers a brand new charity drive.

"SaltToGold represents all the positive things Star Wars fans have been known for throughout the years - kindness, compassion, and goodwill," the instigators of the "Salt to Gold" movement write on Reddit, "We hope to highlight different Star Wars related charities that you can donate to, and if you have a recommendation please feel free to suggest it!"

It's a surprisingly positive campaign despite the fact that it originated from fans' discontent with Disney's sequel trilogy. It's good that fans are making a positive spin over their refusal to watch The Rise of Skywalker.

Still, we wonder why these fans would want to boycott Episode IX. There's a lot riding on the film. Not only is The Rise of Skywalker supposed to close the curtain on Disney's sequel trilogy, but it's also supposed to culminate the entire Skywalker saga.

Fans wouldn't want to miss Episode IX. But then again, to each his own really. At least the money's going to charity.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
