New Details On Star Wars' Boba Fett Standalone Reveal The Film Might Still Have Hope

Last week, word came out that Lucasfilm decided on axing its Star Wars Boba Fett movie because of Jon Favreau's upcoming live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

Now, it looks like Entertainment Weekly has a few new details regarding the abandoned Star Wars spinoff movie and the publication seems to offer some sort of slither of hope to devastated Boba Fett fans.

Confirming the rumor first reported by journalist and critic Erick Weber, the publication says that sources have told them that Lucasfilm's standalone movie for Boba Fett is currently no longer in active development. However, it seems like there's a ray of hope for the canceled Star Wars spinoff: Boba Fett may see some sort of resurrection.

It might take some time, but it's likely that the Boba Fett spinoff may return to active development after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's contract with the studio expires. Sure, Lucasfilm might be putting the focus on The Mandalorian now, but if the series does kick off, then the studio's going to have to consider making a film centered around a Mandalorian, and what better Mandalorian for the role than Boba Fett, yes?

Boba Fett's spinoff has long since been in development at Lucasfilm, however, the project was put on hold for quite a number of times during its production. The film was originally being developed by director Josh Trank, however, after the backlash against the filmmaker's Fantastic Four reboot, Trank was cut out of the franchise.

Now, the film is being set aside again, this time to make way for a bounty hunter series. Guess fans will just have to wait till The Mandalorian finishes.

The Mandalorian doesn't have a release date yet but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
